01 / DIRECT ANSWER
How do I back up an FC 26 Career save?
Use Save As to create a separate Career slot before editing, then make an independent file copy after the game is closed.
The Live Editor creator’s official Editing Player guide explicitly says to make a backup before changing anything and identifies another in-game slot as the rollback point. That is the minimum. For a long Career, add a Windows-level snapshot of the full local save-data folder. Do not overwrite the pre-edit slot during the editing session, and do not keep the only folder copy inside the folder it is supposed to protect.
Fast recovery from a bad player, team or database edit.
Independent protection from slot overwrite, file loss and sync mistakes.
The copy exists, the slot loads and its baseline matches your note.
02 / RECOVERY ARCHITECTURE
Two layers cover different failures
A second slot and a copied folder are not duplicates. Each survives a failure that can destroy the other.
Create it with Save As and leave it untouched. Load it when an edit is wrong but FC 26 still sees your saves normally.
- Fastest rollback
- Visible inside Career Mode
- Vulnerable to manual overwrite
Copy the entire settings folder after FC 26 closes. Keep the snapshot outside the live data location.
- Survives slot overwrite
- Preserves the folder as one unit
- Requires a deliberate restore
Bad edit · wrong save · corrupt local state · sync mistake
Autosave is a working state, not a protected baseline. Saving repeatedly can make the unwanted edit more permanent. The protected slot must stay older than the edit, and the folder snapshot must live outside the active FC 26 directory.
03 / WINDOWS PATH
Where are FC 26 Career saves stored on PC?
Current Windows technical sources place FC 26 save data in %LOCALAPPDATA%\EA SPORTS FC 26\settings. This is an AppData location, not the old Documents path used by many legacy FIFA tutorials.
%LOCALAPPDATA%\EA SPORTS FC 26\settingsPress Win + R, paste the path and press Enter.
%LOCALAPPDATA%copy this foldernot the Career backupPCGamingWiki’s current FC 26 entry separates settings as save data from fcsetup.ini as configuration. A post-release video walkthrough visually confirms that both are separate items under the FC 26 AppData parent. Because filenames inside settings can cover profiles, squads and saves and may change, copying the whole folder is less error-prone than guessing one opaque Career filename.
Wait for the in-game save indicator to finish and close the game before the file snapshot. A file copied mid-write may exist but still be unusable.
04 / INTERACTIVE CHECK
Backup readiness check
Mark only work you actually completed. The tool runs entirely in this browser tab and cannot inspect or copy your local files.
Names are generated only in your browser.
FC26_career_YYYY-MM-DD_pre-editThis planner records your checks locally in this tab. It does not access or copy files.
05 / TEN-MINUTE PROCEDURE
Create the backup before editing
Make the baseline while the Career is known-good. A snapshot made after the problem is evidence—not the pre-edit recovery point.
- 01
Record what “good” looks like
Write down Career type, club/player, manager, in-game date, FC build and the first edit you plan to make. FC 26 exposes progression dates on Career save tiles, which makes the restored state easier to identify.
- 02
Create a manual pre-edit slot
Inside the Career, use Save As and choose a different slot. Give it a clear name such as
PRE-EDIT 11 AUG. Do not rely on the autosave. - 03
Confirm the slot exists
Open the load/save list and confirm both the working Career and the new pre-edit entry are visible with the expected in-game date.
- 04
Exit after the write completes
Wait until the save indicator disappears. Close FC 26 and Live Editor so neither can write to the active folder during the copy.
- 05
Open the current FC 26 save path
Use
%LOCALAPPDATA%\EA SPORTS FC 26\settings. If the folder is missing, launch FC 26 normally, create and manually save a Career once, exit, then check again. - 06
Copy—not move—the settings folder
Paste the complete folder to a destination outside
EA SPORTS FC 26. A separate drive is stronger than another folder on the same disk. - 07
Label the snapshot
Include date, Career identifier and “pre-edit”. Add the exact FC and Live Editor versions to a note if the save matters long-term.
- 08
Verify the copy
Open the destination, confirm the folder is not empty and compare its file count/size with the source. Microsoft likewise recommends browsing the destination after copying.
- 09
Load-test the protected slot
Start FC 26, load the pre-edit slot once and verify club/player, manager and in-game date. Exit without overwriting that slot.
- 10
Edit from the working slot
Return to the working Career. Make one logical change group, verify it in game, then save to a new working slot when the edit is high-risk.
06 / BACKUP CADENCE
Backup cadence before high-risk changes
Create a new recovery point whenever the cost or reversibility of the next operation changes—not only at the start of a season.
Establish a clean baseline before any editor-authored state exists.
One action can affect many records and may be difficult to reconstruct manually.
Version changes can alter compatibility and the meaning of a failed launch.
Keep a milestone before contracts, competitions and generated data advance together.
Archive a known-good promotion, transfer window or youth intake separately.
Do not overwrite the clean baseline. Preserve the broken state separately for diagnosis.

07 / SYNC BOUNDARY
Does EA App cloud sync count as a backup?
No—treat synchronization as a replica, not as your only recovery point. A synchronized overwrite can make the wrong state current in more than one place.
The current PCGamingWiki entry reports that FC 26 cloud handling goes through the EA App rather than native Steam or Epic cloud. EA forum guidance says EA App cloud transfer should happen automatically and that local copies remain a recovery route, but EA does not expose a granular, FC 26-specific version browser in the sources reviewed here.
Useful for continuity across sessions or devices. It may reproduce deletion, overwrite or corruption.
A dated copy remains unchanged until you deliberately choose it for restore.
If EA App shows a local/cloud conflict, do not choose by “newer” alone. First close the prompt if possible and preserve the current local settings folder elsewhere. Compare the baseline, dates and intended Career state, then choose deliberately. The manual snapshot is what lets you recover from a wrong click.
08 / RESTORE DRILL
How do I restore an FC 26 Career backup?
Try the untouched in-game slot first. Use the folder snapshot only when the slot is missing, overwritten or part of a wider local-data problem.
- Stop editing and do not overwrite the baseline.
- Load the pre-edit slot from the correct Career type.
- Verify club/player, manager and in-game date.
- Use Save As to create a new working slot.
- Keep the baseline untouched until the new state is proven.
- Close FC 26, Live Editor and EA App.
- Copy the current
settingsfolder to a separate “post-failure” rescue location. - Rename the live folder instead of deleting it.
- Copy the chosen snapshot back under the exact name
settings. - Launch, handle any sync conflict deliberately, then verify the Career baseline.
The broken/current folder can still contain a newer good slot, useful evidence or files omitted from the older snapshot.
09 / RECOVERY LIMITS
Scope of a Career rollback
A Career backup returns persistent save state to the snapshot time. It is not a complete rollback of the game installation, mods, Live Editor or EA account.
- Transfers and squad state saved in that Career
- Player/team values persisted into that save
- Budgets, standings, fixtures and progression at snapshot time
- The Career’s in-game date and story state
- FC 26 installation or title update
- Live Editor version, config or Lua scripts
- FIFAModData and Mod Manager applied files
- EAAC launcher state or EA account status
A full settings snapshot may also roll back local profile or squad data stored beside the Career. That is another reason to preserve the current folder before a file-level restore. If a new edit disappears before rollback is needed, first trace its entity Save, refresh and Career Save checkpoints. For account risk, see the safety assessment.

Sources and verification boundaries
The backup requirement comes from the creator. The exact PC path is a current technical finding corroborated across independent sources, because EA’s public Career guide does not publish it.

Search-intent and terminology research only. Recorded before release without an FC 26 folder, so it is excluded as proof of the final path.
Checked: 11 August 2026 against the current Live Editor Wiki, EA FC 26 material, PCGamingWiki’s raw page data, Microsoft documentation, EA forum guidance and two topic videos.
Path confidence: high enough for the current Windows guide through source convergence; recheck after a major FC update because EA does not publish this path in the reviewed help article.
Video boundary: the post-release visual walkthrough corroborates the folder structure. The second video was recorded before FC 26 release without the folder present and is not accepted as factual proof.
Review triggers: save location change, EA App cloud behaviour change, FC title update, Live Editor save workflow change or creator Wiki revision.
