01 / DIRECT ANSWER
Legacy Files are path-based overrides, so recovery must also be path-based
Use the exact in-game relative path as the asset’s identity. Preserve the existing file or an “absent” baseline; keep the backup outside the active mods\legacy tree; add or replace one candidate; restart; verify one observable result; then restore the same path. A Career-save backup is useful protection, but it is not a substitute for the original external file.
Directory chain + exact filename + extension.
Know what existed before the override.
Repeat the same screen, object or event.
Restore original or remove the new file.
02 / FOUR DIFFERENT JOBS
Browse, replace, add and export do not imply the same baseline
Classify the operation before copying bytes. Replace requires an existing target; add requires an absent target; export is evidence capture; restore is a deliberate return to the recorded baseline.
Do not turn a Windows source path into the game path. Record the path exposed by the Legacy Browser.
OUTPUT → PATHPreserve the original first; same filename does not guarantee same format or semantics.
BASELINE → ORIGINALProve absence. Removing the one added file should restore the baseline.
BASELINE → ABSENTv26.3.6 also documents an exact Lua Exists/Export route.
OUTPUT → EVIDENCE03 / ORIGINAL LOCAL INSTRUMENT
Build a one-file passport before opening the active Legacy tree
Choose an operation, normalize the relative path and select a local candidate or known original. The tool calculates SHA‑256 entirely in your browser and emits a deterministic receipt; it never uploads or writes the file.
Legacy change control
Inspects one local file, normalizes one relative path and creates a rollback receipt. Nothing leaves this browser.
Restore the exported original or remove the override after proving ownership.
WHAT READY MEANS: path, artifact, baseline, proof and rollback are recorded. It does not validate an undocumented file schema, certify a mod as compatible or touch FC 26.
04 / PATH ANATOMY
Separate the active root from the game-relative legacy path
Current FC 26 Wiki examples place overrides under the Live Editor folder’s mods\legacy root. The remaining directory chain mirrors the asset’s game-relative path.
Current default-style Wiki example. A configured custom mods directory can replace this root.
One documented miniface example only; do not reuse its folder or format for unrelated assets.
Case, extension, format and internal content can still determine whether the game accepts it.

Eight checkpoints make a legacy edit reversible
- 01PAIRRecord the full game/editor pair
Current reference: FC 26 v1.6.6 build 1.0.139.20381 → LE v26.3.5–v26.3.6.
- 02PATHCapture the exact relative path
Keep the Browser path separate from the Windows root.
- 03BASELINEExport original or prove absence
Store untouched evidence outside the active mods tree.
- 04HASHRecord filename, bytes and SHA-256
A hash proves identity, not semantic correctness.
- 05PROOFCapture the before state
Choose one repeatable screen, object or event.
- 06STAGEApply exactly one candidate
No second file, mod, version or setting in the same run.
- 07RELAUNCHRestart through the normal LE path
Pre-launch assets may not reload safely inside an existing process.
- 08RESTOREReturn baseline and prove again
Original back in place—or added override removed—then rerun the same proof.
06 / BASELINE DECISION
Replace only after Exists; add only after Absent
The practical difference is the rollback contract. Calling every operation “import” hides the evidence you need when the result is wrong.
- Export or copy the original first.
- Keep the exact relative path unchanged.
- Match the format expected by that asset family.
- Rollback by returning the known original.
- Record that no target existed.
- Create the missing relative directories.
- Use the exact required filename and format.
- Rollback by removing only the added override.
DO NOT GUESS ABSENCE: if you cannot prove whether the target exists, browse or call LegacyFileExist on v26.3.6 before choosing Add.
07 / EXPORT BEFORE EDIT
“Restore” is a prepared state, not a rescue button after the fact
Issue #13 shows the exact failure mode: a user replaced GrowthTrainingPlans.csv, observed extreme training speed and asked how to undo it. The issue remains open, with zero comments and no maintainer procedure.
Original bytes, path, size, hash and storage location.
One path, one process restart, one observed result.
Return original or remove added override; prove the same surface.
IF THE ORIGINAL IS ALREADY LOST: stop stacking replacements. Preserve the current file and path, remove the override only if you know the baseline was the game-owned asset, then test. A storefront repair and a Live Editor override are different ownership layers.
08 / NAMED CRASH BOUNDARY
What should you do with a corrupted legacy_filename_hash_list.csv?
Update past the fixed release and preserve the file as evidence. The v26.3.1 changelog explicitly fixes a game crash while loading a corrupted legacy_filename_hash_list.csv. No public creator source in this audit publishes its schema, corruption test or manual repair format.
That is a release fact, not proof that every malformed file is repaired automatically.
Do not sort, deduplicate, re-encode or fabricate columns from generic CSV assumptions.
Preserve the suspect file/hash, use a mapped current release, remove only the suspect override when ownership is known, then relaunch.
09 / LUA VERSION GATE
v26.3.6 adds two read/export functions—not a write or restore API
The official API declares bool LegacyFileExist(string fpath) and bool LegacyFileExport(string fpath, string outpath). The output path is optional; the documented default is Desktop.
No release-listed LegacyFileExist or LegacyFileExport Lua functions.
Two Boolean functions. No current write, replace, delete or restore function is documented on this API page.
local fpath = "data/db/fifa_ng_db.db"
if LegacyFileExist(fpath) then
local ok = LegacyFileExport(fpath) -- Desktop default
print(ok and "exported" or "export failed")
end10 / OWNERSHIP & PERSISTENCE
Legacy overrides are external assets, not ordinary Career fields
Current FC 26 miniface documentation says imported files are visible only while Live Editor is working and stores bulk files in mods\legacy. Treat a general legacy override as shared external state unless its own documentation proves a narrower lifecycle.
Can affect every applicable session launched with that active Legacy tree.
Documented miniface examples disappear when the game runs without the tool.
A file can influence training or competition behavior; a save backup cannot recreate missing original bytes.
Game and Live Editor updates can change accepted files, behavior or compatibility.
11 / FIRST FAILED CHECKPOINT
Route the symptom without changing a second asset
Confirm the active mods root, game-relative chain, extension, Live Editor process and relaunch.
Restore immediately; compare original and candidate size/hash, then use asset-specific documentation.
Preserve it, return baseline and record the last stable process milestone.
Current miniface docs explicitly describe this lifecycle; do not assume Career embedding.
Verify the restored hash and ensure a duplicate override is not active elsewhere.
Remove/restore the external override; do not edit each Career as if the asset were save-local.
12 / VIDEO EVIDENCE AUDIT
YouTube shows the demand, but not a current complete Legacy workflow
Six queries returned 90 result slots. They were dominated by FC Editor Tool, Mod Manager, face/kit tutorials, generic Live Editor showcases, crash videos, repacks and unrelated “legacy” terms. No current caption-backed result completed export → hash → one-file change → relaunch proof → restore.
Shows a pre-launch multi-file import mental model and warns that IDs differ by game generation. It cannot define FC 26 paths, formats or restore semantics.
WATCH ↗Exact FC 26 queries repeatedly surfaced adjacent Editor Tool and Mod Manager workflows.

FC 26 Legacy Files FAQ
01What are legacy files in FC 26 Live Editor?+
They are game files exposed through the Legacy File Browser or recreated under Live Editor’s mods\legacy tree. Current creator pages show examples including miniface DDS files, compdata JSON and special Career CSV files; the exact supported set is broader than those examples.
02Where is the FC 26 Legacy File Browser?+
The v26.1.0 changelog confirms the Legacy File Browser as a core first-release feature. Use the current Live Editor interface and browse by the game-relative path; this guide does not invent a universal menu label that the current Wiki does not publish.
03How do I replace a legacy file?+
First preserve/export the existing file, record its relative path and hash, then stage exactly one same-format replacement at the same path. Relaunch and prove the exact affected screen or event.
04How do I add a new legacy file?+
Prove the target is absent, recreate its game-relative directory structure under the active mods\legacy root, place one correctly named file, relaunch and verify. Removing that one added override is the rollback.
05How do I restore an original legacy file?+
Use the untouched original you exported or backed up before the edit. If the baseline was “file absent,” remove only your added override. Issue #13 has no maintainer answer and does not establish a magic restore button.
06Can I export a legacy file with Lua?+
Yes in v26.3.6: the official API documents LegacyFileExist(fpath) and LegacyFileExport(fpath, outpath). If outpath is omitted, the documented default is Desktop. These functions are not listed for v26.3.5.
07Why is LegacyFileExport missing in my Lua script?+
At the 18 August 2026 manifest snapshot, Public/Bronze is v26.3.5 and Silver is v26.3.6. The changelog adds LegacyFileExist and LegacyFileExport only in v26.3.6.
08Where is the active legacy mods folder?+
Current FC 26 Wiki examples use C:\FC 26 Live Editor\mods\legacy for bulk minifaces and other documented overrides. If you changed the Live Editor mods directory, use that configured root rather than blindly copying the example path.
09Can I restore a file by repairing FC 26 in EA App?+
A storefront repair may restore owned game installation files, but Live Editor overrides live in a separate mods tree. Identify the owner first; do not use a broad repair as a substitute for deleting or restoring one known override.
10What is legacy_filename_hash_list.csv?+
The public creator sources used here do not publish its schema. The changelog only confirms that v26.3.1 fixed a game crash while loading a corrupted file with that exact name, so preserve it and avoid schema guesses.
11Does changing a legacy file modify only one Career save?+
Usually no: current Wiki examples place overrides in Live Editor’s external mods\legacy tree and say some assets appear only while Live Editor runs. Treat the file as a shared external override until an exact source proves narrower ownership.
12Can I use legacy overrides online?+
No. The official project scope says the anticheat bypass is offline only. This page supports local offline testing and never promotes FUT, Clubs or connected-play modification.
13Why does my replacement not appear?+
Check the active mods root, normalized relative path, exact filename/extension, expected game format, version pair and whether Live Editor was running. Then test one known screen; do not add more files until the first divergence is understood.
14What belongs in a Legacy Files bug report?+
Include FC26.exe build, Live Editor version, exact relative path, operation, original/replacement hashes, file size, source format, active mods root, before/after proof, restart result and whether removing the one override restores baseline.
