Player editor / source-mapped field guide

Edit the player.
Keep the logic.

Attributes, overall, potential and PlayStyles are related—but they are not one switch. Use the exact field map, edit the right layer and complete both saves without turning every prospect into the same 99-rated player.

01 / DIRECT ANSWER

How do you edit attributes, potential and PlayStyles?

In Manager Career, press F9, open Features → Players, find the player and edit the relevant tab. Attribute changes use Attributes → Apply; overall and potential are separate player values; PlayStyles, PlayStyles+ and hidden traits are separate layers. Then use Player → Save, leave and re-enter the current FC screen to refresh it, and save the Career in a separate slot. Do not keep FC’s built-in Edit Player screen open, because leaving it can overwrite Live Editor changes.

CHANGE NOWAttributes + OVR

Current ability data. Thirty-five editable attributes exist across seven groups; overall is stored separately.

SHAPE LATERPotential

A separate Career growth input/ceiling. Raising it is not an instant current-rating boost.

CHANGE FEELPlayStyles

Standard, Plus and hidden-trait layers. They are not generated merely by changing OVR or POT.

02 / DATA MODEL

One player, four values that should not be conflated

The creator’s own 99/99 and 1/99 Lua examples are unusually useful evidence: they write every attribute, overallrating, modifier and potential as separate values. The Player Career example stores standard and Plus PlayStyles in separate trait fields.

01 ×Overall rating

A separate current-rating field. Do not promise a recalculation from a partial edit.

overallrating

01 ×Potential

A separate future-growth value, not a command to increase today’s OVR.

potential

03 ×Style layers

Standard PlayStyles, PlayStyles+ and hidden Career traits have distinct surfaces.

trait / icontrait

What we can prove: the official current scripts write these objects separately. What we do not claim: a reverse-engineered FC 26 OVR formula or an automatic OVR response for every position and field combination.

03 / INTERACTIVE PLAYER FIELD LAB

Inspect the layer before you touch the save

Search the complete source-derived attribute set, compare OVR with POT, or inspect the three style layers. The lab is a planning aid only: it never connects to Live Editor and never pretends to save a game.

REALISM CONTROL
Edit for a role, not a headline number.

A fast winger, press-resistant midfielder and aerial centre-back should not receive the same blanket 99s. Make the smallest coherent change, refresh, inspect the player again, then decide whether a second pass is needed.

05 / SAFE MANAGER CAREER WORKFLOW

The edit is not complete when the number changes on screen

A durable player edit has five checkpoints: backup, select the correct object, write the correct layer, save the player, then refresh and save the Career. Stop if the before-state is not documented.

  1. 01
    Create a rollback point

Save the Career to another slot. Record the player ID/name, original OVR, POT, changed fields and PlayStyles.

    BEFORE
  2. 02
    Open the intended player

Press F9 → Features → Players, search, and confirm the player/team before editing. Do not open FC’s built-in Edit Player at the same time.

    OBJECT
  3. 03
    Edit one accountable layer

Use Attributes → Apply for attributes, the dedicated value for POT/OVR, or the matching PlayStyles tab. Avoid unrelated changes in the same pass.

    CHANGE
  4. 04
    Use Player → Save

This writes the entity edit. A changed control in the overlay is not evidence of a saved player until this step is complete.

    EDITOR
  5. 05
    Refresh, verify and Career Save

Exit and re-enter the relevant FC screen, verify the player, save the Career, reload it once and check again.

06 / OVERALL & POTENTIAL

Why does POT not instantly raise OVR?

Potential and current overall are separate stored values. The creator’s counterexample script deliberately sets all 34 attributes plus OVR to 1 while setting POT to 99. That proves a high ceiling can coexist with low current ability; it does not promise how quickly Career progression will close the gap.

Development-plan priority can mask a table edit.

For user-team players, the current official scripts also update the active development-plan values because that layer has higher priority than the players table. If the visible result disagrees with your edit, inspect this before repeatedly rewriting the player.

07 / PLAYSTYLES & PLAYSTYLES+

Add identity without inventing an automatic rule

Use the dedicated Player Editor surfaces for standard PlayStyles and PlayStyles+. Do not copy community claims about an OVR threshold into the Editor workflow: a direct edit is distinct from base-game Career progression, and the creator’s code stores ordinary and Plus layers separately.

STANDARD01
PlayStyles

Use for the ordinary gameplay identity layer. Choose role-relevant effects rather than filling every available option.

Player Editor → PlayStyles
ENHANCED02
PlayStyles+

A different layer and tab. It is not established by changing potential, attributes or overall alone.

CAREER BEHAVIOR03
Hidden traits

Documented Career behavior such as Super Sub belongs here, not in the ordinary PlayStyle list.

Player Editor → Hidden Traits
PLAYER CAREER / VPRODo not reuse the Manager Career persistence promise.

The creator’s pap_all_playstyles.lua example re-applies trait values after day, match, hub-entry and load-related reset events. That is evidence of a separate runtime problem, not permission to claim that every Player Career UI edit will persist normally.

08 / LIMITS & FAILURE MODES

Four reasons a correct-looking edit can still fail

01 / OVERWRITEFC Edit Player was open

Exiting the game’s own editor can write old values over the Live Editor change.

Close it before F9 work
02 / PRIORITYDevelopment plan wins

User-team development-plan values can take priority over the players table.

Inspect the active plan
03 / PERSISTENCEOnly one save happened

Player Save and Career/Squads Save are separate checkpoints.

Complete both and reload
04 / MODEWrong mode contract

The Wiki is Manager Career-first; Player Career/VPRO, Tournament and online modes do not share one promise.

09 / FRESH VIDEO AUDIT

Thirty-six results, three usable roles, zero video authorities

Three 12-result searches were repeated on 17 August 2026. Videos are useful for audience language and visual orientation; the creator’s Wiki, changelog and current repository remain the authority for field names, save steps and mode limits.

V12Current overview

Strong on the desire to reshape Career players; too broad to define the exact field/save contract.

V35Current player showcase

Shows 70→99 edits, potential and PlayStyles, but omits screen refresh/Career Save and links an unofficial download.

V37Legacy deep walkthrough

Useful for per-entity Save and tab separation; rejected as FC 26 field authority because it is FC 25.

06+Polluted results

“Premium,” “no ban,” “anti-cheat bypass” and repack clips were excluded from instructions and sources of truth.

10 / PLAYER EDITOR FAQ

Answers for the edge cases

01Can FC 26 Live Editor change player potential?

Yes. Potential is a separate player field in the official current Lua examples and Player Editor workflow. Save the player, refresh the FC screen and save the Career. Raising potential does not itself raise the current overall immediately.

02Can it make a player 99 rated?

The official repository includes scripts that set all 34 attributes and the separate overallrating field to 99. That proves the writable field set, not that changing one attribute automatically recalculates a 99 OVR.

03Why did attributes change but OVR did not?

Overall rating, individual attributes and the modifier are separate stored values in the official examples. Also check whether a user-team development plan is taking priority, then refresh the in-game screen after Player Save.

04Can I add PlayStyles and PlayStyles+?

The Player Editor documents separate PlayStyles and PlayStyles+ surfaces. Treat them as distinct layers and save the player and Career; do not assume OVR or potential will create them automatically.

05Why did a PlayStyle disappear in Player Career?

Player Career is a different path. The creator’s Play As Player Lua example explicitly re-applies PlayStyles after several reset events, so do not apply the Manager Career UI persistence promise to VPRO/PAP.

06Do development plans override edited attributes?

They can for a player in the user-managed team. The creator’s current Lua examples write the same values into the active development plan because that layer has higher priority than the players table.

07Can I use the Editor while FC’s own Edit Player screen is open?

Do not do that. The official Wiki warns that exiting FC’s built-in Edit Player screen can write its values back and overwrite the Live Editor changes.

08Does this work for FUT, Pro Clubs or console?

No. FC 26 Live Editor is a Windows PC, offline-use tool and the creator Wiki excludes online modes including FUT, Pro Clubs and Volta. There is no supported console roster-transfer workaround.

RESEARCH FREEZE · 17 AUGUST 2026

The exact 34-attribute set, separate overall and storage boundaries come from current official FC 26 Lua examples. The normal edit/save chain and mode limits come from the official Wiki. No controlled FC 26 binary/Career fixture was available for an independent before/after test; older Wiki imagery and FC 25 video are therefore interface context, not current proof.
