01 / DIRECT ANSWER
How do you change a player name and commentary?
In Manager Career, press F9 → Features → Players, open the intended player and click Player Name. Use Name IDs on the left to choose existing game-pool names—these matter for commentary—or enter exact text under Custom Name on the right, which has higher display priority. Press Save in the name popup, then Player → Save. Re-enter the current FC screen, save the Career and, if the old label remains, exit and load that exact slot. Commentary is only confirmed when you hear it in a match.
Match existing pool entries. The creator warns this can still fail.

one edited player only02 / EXACT FIELD MAP
The Player Name dialog contains eight inputs
The official Wiki dialog separates four pool-backed Name IDs from four custom text fields. It does not publish a complete searchable ID database or guarantee how every FC screen abbreviates those values.
First-name entry from the existing game pool
Surname entry from the existing game pool
Known-as/common-name pool entry
Short shirt/nameplate pool entry
Your custom first-name text
Your custom surname text
Separate shirt/nameplate text
Custom known-as display text
Do not invent numeric IDs from a third-party list. Use the picker in the current Player Name dialog. Record the resolved entry and player ID before saving so the change can be reversed.
03 / INTERACTIVE IDENTITY DESK
Plan the name, priority and proof locally
Record the pool entries or custom text you intend to use, then mark only the checkpoints you actually observe. This browser planner does not connect to the game, look up IDs or perform a save.
Nothing is sent to FC 26
Record the four selected Name IDs
These are planning labels, not numeric ID lookup. Choose the real entries inside Live Editor’s picker, then record what you selected here.
Matching an existing player’s Name IDs creates a commentary candidate. The creator explicitly warns that it sometimes does not work, so the final proof is an audible in-match call—not a filled field.
04 / DOCUMENTED WORKFLOW
A durable rename has two Save buttons and one cache check
- 01Back up and record the old identityROLLBACK
Save the Career to another slot. Capture player ID plus all eight original fields.
- 02Open the right player outside FC Edit PlayerOBJECT
F9 → Features → Players → Edit. Squad Hub, Central or Office are safe; FC’s own Edit Player screen is not.
- 03Choose one identity strategyINPUT
Use Name IDs for the existing pool, Custom Name for exact visible text, or document why both are needed.
- 04Press Save in Player NamePOPUP
This closes the nested name dialog with its values. It is not the final Career persistence proof.
- 05Use Player → SaveENTITY
The general Player Editor instruction tells FC that the player entity changed.
- 06Refresh, save and reload oncePROOF
Re-enter the FC screen, Career Save to a test slot, exit/load if stale, then listen in a match.
!Never leave FC’s built-in Edit Player screen after making the Live Editor change. The official Wiki warns that its old player data can overwrite the new values.
05 / COMMENTARY PROOF
A matching Name ID is an input, not audible evidence
The creator calls Name IDs crucial for commentary and gives matching a known player’s IDs as the youth-player example—but immediately warns that it sometimes does not work. Therefore the responsible result is pass, fail or untested after a controlled match.
Choose the intended first, last, common and jersey Name IDs.
Complete popup, player and Career checkpoints before judging audio.
Use the same player and commentary language; record an actual call.
Record match and commentary language.
Keep the IDs and do not claim support.
A silent match is not proof of failure.
06 / DISPLAY PRIORITY
Why do Name IDs stop controlling the visible label?
Custom Name has higher documented priority. If any custom field remains populated, do not assume changing the corresponding Name ID will become visible. Inspect both halves of the dialog and treat shirt, squad card, HUD and spoken audio as separate output surfaces.
Existing first, last, common and jersey entries.
Your first, surname, jersey and common-name text.
07 / CACHE & PERSISTENCE
Use exit-and-load only when one edited name stays stale
The official cache note is narrow: after editing a player name, some cases require Career Save, exit and load to clear the in-game player-name cache. It is not a universal fix for every blank Name cell inside Live Editor.
Leave and re-enter Squad Hub or the current FC view after Player Save.

What this rename guide does not promise
The author explicitly says matching Name IDs sometimes fails.
The current built-in surface does not expose real-player name changes.
There is no supported console export/import path for Live Editor.
A Clubs commentary-name setting is a separate feature, not this tool.
v26.3.6 adds a CJK-supporting font but does not guarantee every name surface.
The UI is the normal route; raw name-table edits are advanced and easier to damage.
09 / ROLLBACK
Restore the identity, not merely the visible label
Before editing, capture all eight fields and the player ID. A complete rollback restores Name IDs and Custom Name values, then repeats the same popup Save → Player Save → refresh → Career Save chain.
- Player ID and mode
- Four resolved Name IDs
- Four Custom Name fields
- Screenshot of current display
- Do not only erase Common Name
- Restore jersey separately
- Use both Save checkpoints
- Reload the test slot
- Squad/player card
- Shirt or HUD
- Players list
- Commentary if previously heard
10 / FRESH VIDEO AUDIT
Exact current Live Editor rename proof is still missing
Three fresh searches returned 27 videos on 17 August 2026. Results mixed manager replacement, base-game Edit Real Player, Clubs commentary names, created-player tutorials, FC 25 and older FIFA Live Editor material.
Confirms the built-in real-player editor lacks the name control; different product surface.
Useful for player navigation and entity Save, but FC 25 does not prove FC 26 name fields.
No current exact Live Editor walkthrough completed rename, reload and audible commentary proof.
Pro/Clubs commentary-name menus dominate results and are excluded from Live Editor claims.

Player name and commentary questions
01How do I change a player name in FC 26 Live Editor?+
Open F9 → Features → Players, edit the intended player, click Player Name, fill Name IDs or Custom Name, press Save in the popup, then Player → Save. Refresh the FC screen and save the Career; exit and reload the slot if the old name remains cached.
02What is the difference between Name IDs and Custom Name?+
Name IDs select entries from FC 26’s existing name pool and are relevant to commentary. Custom Name accepts your own text and has higher display priority than Name IDs.
03Which player-name fields are available?+
The official dialog shows First Name ID, Last Name ID, Common Name ID and Jersey Name ID on the left; First Name, Surname, Jersey Name and Common Name on the custom side.
04Can I give a youth player Messi commentary?+
The creator’s example says to select the same Name IDs, but explicitly warns that commentary sometimes does not work. Treat an audible in-match call as the only proof; a matching field is not a guarantee.
05Why does the custom name override my Name IDs?+
That is the documented priority. Remove or change the Custom Name fields if you want the game-pool Name IDs to control the visible name again.
06Why is the old player name still showing?+
First complete the popup Save and Player → Save, then leave and re-enter the current FC screen. If it remains stale, save the Career to a separate slot, exit and load that exact slot to clear the documented in-game name cache.
07Why are all names blank in the Live Editor Players list?+
That is a different symptom tracked as issue #35. Do not rename individual players or clear the Career cache as a blanket repair; use the dedicated blank-list diagnosis and preserve the version/language evidence.
08Can I change real-player names with FC 26’s built-in editor?+
The audited current base-game surface does not expose that option. This guide covers FC 26 Live Editor on Windows PC, not the built-in Edit Real Player menu or console.
09Can I use this in FUT, Pro Clubs or Volta?+
No. The creator documents Live Editor as offline-only and excludes those online modes. A Clubs commentary-name menu is a different feature and does not prove Live Editor behavior.
12 / EVIDENCE LEDGER
The Wiki controls the rename contract
Primary procedure, four Name ID and four Custom Name inputs, priority, commentary caveat, nested Save and cache reload.
Change Name added to Player Editor in v26.1.5; extra CJK-supporting font added in v26.3.6.
Windows PC injected editor, Player Editor breadth and offline-only product boundary.
Advanced corroboration that custom player-name records are player-linked and include first, surname and jersey fields; UI remains the normal route.
Current separate regression: every Name cell blank while other columns populate. It is not the one-player cache test.
Real user intent—distinguish youth players after a Career starts—and community save/reload language; no technical authority.
Current FC 26 comparison showing the built-in Edit Real Player surface does not expose real-player names.
Healthy Player Editor navigation and entity-save context in FC 25; not current FC 26 field proof.
27 returned results across three searches; no current exact Live Editor name-edit walkthrough with a complete commentary/cache test.
The current Wiki revision supplies the UI fields, priority, commentary caveat and cache instruction; the changelog supplies version history. No licensed FC 26 fixture was available for an independent audible commentary test, so the page labels commentary as unverified until heard. Official Wiki images are navigation evidence and may retain older visual chrome.
