01 / DIRECT ANSWER
How do you import or generate a player miniface?
Open F9 → Features → Players, edit the intended player, then choose Player → Miniface. Use Generate Miniface to capture the current 3D model through EA’s Player Capture System, or Import Miniface to select a custom image. Standard imports must be actual 180×180 DDS textures compressed as DXT5/BC3—not renamed PNG/JPG files. The portrait is a shared Live Editor override and appears only while the tool is running.
Capture the current player model and use the result as the 2D menu portrait.
Player Capture SystemPrepare the exact file contract, select it in Player Editor and confirm.
180×180 · DDS · DXT5Delete only the target portrait, validate locally and retry one file.
shared external asset02 / TWO PORTRAIT ROUTES
Generate photographs the model; Import supplies the artwork
Both routes end in a 2D portrait, but their inputs and failure modes differ. Choose based on what you control: the live 3D model or a prepared image file.
EA’s Player Capture System renders the current model. Fastest for youth, regens and an appearance you already built.
- Current head, hair and kit context
- No conversion step
- Lighting/framing can vary
You control composition and lighting, but the binary file contract and player eligibility become your responsibility.
- Exact 180×180 canvas
- Actual DDS container
- DXT5/BC3 compression
If you want the player’s 3D face, return to article 41. If you changed the 3D head first, regenerate/import this separate portrait afterward.
03 / INTERACTIVE PORTRAIT LAB
Route the player and inspect the DDS header locally
The lab enforces the documented import eligibility and reads a selected file’s extension, DDS magic, header size, dimensions and FourCC in your browser. It never uploads the image or connects to FC 26.
Files never leave this browser
Generate the model or import a file?
Generate asks EA’s Player Capture System to photograph the current 3D model. Import assigns a prepared 2D override. Neither operation replaces the player’s 3D head.
04 / STRICT FILE CONTRACT
Four independent checks make a standard miniface
A square image named `.dds` is not enough. The current Wiki asks for all four properties together; the local inspector proves the binary/header properties but cannot judge composition or in-game success.
Width and height are stored independently in the DDS header.
Bytes begin with the `DDS ` magic value—not PNG or JPEG data.
Strict legacy FourCC is DXT5. DXT1 is not the requested contract.
Manual-folder example: player 241130 becomes `p241130.DDS`.
Changing `portrait.png` to `portrait.dds` changes the label only. In our control test, both files retained identical PNG bytes and the same SHA-256.
convert source-alpha.png -resize 180x180! -define dds:compression=dxt5 p241130.ddsImageMagick builds vary. Our opaque-source control silently became DXT1, so the command is not proof; inspect the resulting FourCC. The creator’s documented GUI route is Paint.NET → BC3 (linear, DXT5).
05 / IMPORT WORKFLOW
Import one compliant portrait into one eligible player
- 01Confirm the player objectELIGIBILITY
The Wiki supports real and youth players. Stop for Player Career created players and homegrown talent.
- 02Prepare the source compositionSOURCE
Use a square, readable portrait and keep the editable source separate from the DDS output.
- 03Export the real textureBINARY
Resize to 180×180 and export DDS with BC3/DXT5. Never rename the source extension.
- 04Inspect before FC loads itPREFLIGHT
Check magic, 124-byte header, dimensions and DXT5 FourCC locally.
- 05Open the exact Player Editor objectTARGET
F9 → Features → Players → find by player ID → Edit.
- 06Choose Player → Miniface → ImportIMPORT
Select the prepared file and press OK. The Wiki does not add a Career Save step.
- 07Refresh the menu surfacePROOF
Leave and re-enter the relevant squad/player view and confirm the correct ID owns the portrait.
Created player in Player Career · homegrown talent. This limit belongs specifically to the current Importing Miniface contract; do not silently apply or remove it based on another route.
06 / GENERATE WORKFLOW
Capture the final 3D look, then refresh the 2D surface
Generation calls EA’s Player Capture System. Finish the intended head, hair, accessories and kit context first; otherwise the portrait can immediately become visually stale.
The capture reflects the model you present, not a future appearance edit.
F9 → Features → Players → verify player ID → Edit.
Player → Miniface → Generate Miniface.
Exit and re-enter the menu surface to prove the new portrait.
Record its player ID and folder so later cleanup remains scoped.
Current audience video identifies the symptom; its 512×512 advice conflicts with the Wiki, so use 180×180 DXT5.
07 / STORAGE & PERSISTENCE
The portrait belongs to a shared legacy folder, not the Career slot
The creator stores generated/imported files under Live Editor’s `mods\legacy` tree and says they are visible only while Live Editor works. No Player Save or Career Save is documented as the portrait owner.
Deterministic manual/batch name from the official real-player example.
External folders under the dedicated Live Editor installation.
Portrait is visible while the tool loads the legacy override.
C:\FC 26 Live Editor\mods\legacy\data\ui\imgAssets\headsC:\FC 26 Live Editor\mods\legacy\data\ui\imgAssets\youthheadsEvidence-led inference: because the override is external and keyed to a player ID, an old `p<ID>.DDS` can appear in another Career that resolves the same ID. Audit that exact file before diagnosing save corruption.
08 / ERROR MATRIX
Route the symptom to the file, loader or player object

We generated synthetic assets with ImageMagick 6.9.12-98, inspected their headers, FourCC and hashes, and did not use any FC or user artwork. This proves the validator logic—not in-game acceptance.

DXT1 @ 0x54Valid container/compression cannot rescue the wrong dimensions.
width 179 · height 179Decoder still reports PNG; bytes and SHA-256 remain identical to source.
3b3997…825Requested DXT5 but this ImageMagick build automatically wrote DXT1.
inspect every outputWe retain the official format contract but do not reproduce that line as a working conversion recipe. Paint.NET’s BC3 export or a verified local DDS encoder remains the safer path.
10 / DELETE & ROLLBACK
Remove one portrait override without erasing the library
The Wiki offers two deletion routes: Delete miniface in Player Editor or removal of the corresponding file from the documented heads/youthheads folders. Scope the target by player ID first.
Record name, ID, mode and the currently visible portrait.
Keep `p<ID>.DDS` in a dated rollback folder when it matters.
Use Delete miniface or remove only the matched file.
Re-enter the menu; retry only after the bad override is gone.
Do not empty both directories as a first response. That destroys unrelated portraits and makes the original failure harder to attribute.
11 / HARD BOUNDARIES
What this portrait workflow does not promise
The miniface is a 2D menu image only.
Standard import is excluded for a created Player Career object.
The current Wiki explicitly excludes this object.
The override is visible only while Live Editor works.
Header checks cannot judge crop, background, lighting or game load.
Managers have separate miniface docs; team logos are another asset family.
12 / FRESH VIDEO AUDIT
The only exact current video contradicts the file specification
Three searches returned 12 videos on 17 August 2026. The exact FC 26 tutorial contained no narration or captions, so its on-screen text was transcribed through a local frame audit.
Shows stale shared files and dark generated portraits; its 512×512 import advice conflicts with the creator Wiki.
Confirms Import/Generate vocabulary but supplies only “square DDS” and generic converter advice.
Shows Generate and menu refresh in FC 24; useful sequence, wrong generation for current file facts.
Remaining results mix FC 25/23, facemods, base-game faces, mobile Football League and youth showcases.
For the standard FC 26 import route, `180×180 DDS DXT5` wins over the video’s `512×512 DDS` because the current creator documentation controls. Video supplies symptoms and screen vocabulary only.
13 / FAQ
Player miniface import and generation questions
01How do I generate a miniface in FC 26 Live Editor?+
Press F9 → Features → Players, edit the intended player, then choose Player → Miniface → Generate Miniface. Live Editor uses EA’s Player Capture System to create a portrait from the current 3D model.
02How do I import a custom player miniface?+
Prepare an actual 180×180 DDS texture using DXT5/BC3, open the player, choose Player → Miniface → Import Miniface, select the file and press OK. Do not merely rename a PNG or JPEG.
03What format and size does an FC 26 miniface need?+
The current creator Wiki requests a 180×180 DirectDraw Surface texture using DXT5/BC3. The extension, dimensions and compression are separate checks.
04Can I import a PNG directly as a miniface?+
Not under the current standard Wiki contract. A file renamed from PNG to DDS still contains PNG bytes. Export it through a DDS-capable tool and verify DXT5/BC3.
05Why does importing a miniface crash FC 26 or Live Editor?+
Delete the imported override first, then verify that it is an actual 180×180 DDS using DXT5. Wrong dimensions, a renamed image or another DDS compression are the documented common causes.
06Where are imported and generated minifaces stored?+
The Wiki lists heads and youthheads under the Live Editor mods/legacy/data/ui/imgAssets directory. It shows C:\FC 26 Live Editor as the default root; use the matching folders inside your actual dedicated Live Editor installation.
07What filename should I use for batch miniface import?+
The documented real-player example uses p followed by the player ID and .DDS: player 241130 becomes p241130.DDS in the heads folder. The one-player Import dialog normally owns placement for an individual image.
08Why does the custom miniface disappear without Live Editor?+
That is documented behavior. The portrait is an external Live Editor legacy override, not a normal Career field, so it is visible only while the tool is working.
09Why does an old miniface appear in a new Career?+
The files live in shared external Live Editor folders and are keyed by player ID, not documented as save-local data. Inspect the exact p<ID>.DDS override in both listed folders before changing the Career.
10Can I import a miniface for a created Player Career player or homegrown talent?+
No. The current Importing Miniface Wiki explicitly excludes a created player in Player Career and homegrown talent from standard import.
11Is a miniface the same as a head model or face mod?+
No. A miniface is the 2D portrait used in menus. The Head Model is the player’s 3D head, and a face mod installs separate 3D assets.
12How do I delete a custom or generated miniface?+
Use Delete miniface in the Player Editor top-right, or remove only the corresponding portrait file from the documented heads/youthheads folders. Keep a copy if you may need to restore it.
